Wolves earn fifth consecutive win this season

The Green River Wolves Soccer team had a fantastic weekend on the field, winning two more conference games. The Wolves are playing very strong this year and have shown their determination and skills every game they've played. A lot of their success so far has been attributed to their ability to work together as a team.

On Friday, the Wolves hosted a conference game against the Powell Panthers. Green River dominated the game, scoring two goals in the first half and one goal in the second half. Green River won with a final score of 3-0.

Leading the team were Braxton Doak, Maddux Hintz and Christian Lee with one goal each, along with Hintz and Irie Kuball who had one assist each. Eddie Zarate had five saves at the net during the game. It was a great team effort, as all the Wolves had attempted shots.

"The boys played really well against Powell," explained Head Coach Josh Webb. "We're finding that third pass and attacking third and getting our head up. I liked the physicality that the boys brought."

On Saturday, the Wolves hosted a conference game against the Cody Broncs. Both of the teams were playing to win, and as the end of the game neared, the score was still 1-1. They went into a shootout, and Green River won the shootout 5-3. The Wolves won the game with a final score of 2-1.

Leading the team was Stone Rubeck with one goal and Jaxon Morris with one assist. Doak, Dusten Berg and Izyk Arellano had two shots during the game, along with Dominick Littefield and Kuball with one shot each. Goalkeeper Zarate had six saves during the game.

Coach Webb said the game against Cody was very different than their game on Friday. Cody was more organized defensively and put a lot of pressure on the Wolves defensively. Webb said he felt it was good for the boys to see what it was like to be up against a tough team, and Green River showed up and matched their physicality. Since the Wolves have been working on their PK's (penalty kicks) every night at practice, it paid off and helped them win the game.

"I like what's going on with the team. The team chemistry is perfect and these boys work hard," he added.

On Tuesday, the Wolves traveled to Lander to play a conference game against the Lander Tigers. The game went into a shootout after the score was tied 1-1. The Wolves came out on top in the shootout and won the game with a final score of 2-1. This win gives the Wolves their fifth consecutive win of the season.

The Wolves will hit the road again on Friday to play against the Lyman Eagles at 4 p.m., and on Saturday they will travel to play the Mountain View Buffalos at 1 p.m.
