Boys basketball seeks to learn from losses against Riverton and Cody

The Green River High School Boys Basketball team had the chance to play two games at home last weekend when they took on Riverton and Cody, who are ranked second and third in the 4A Northwest Region respectively.

While the Wolves put up a good fight, they ultimately came up short in both games.

"We faced some tough competition this weekend," Head Coach Laurie Ivie said, "and it's clear that we didn't perform at our best. Every game is an opportunity to learn and grow, and this weekend was no exception."

Facing Riverton on Friday night, the Wolves worked to keep up throughout the game, but they ultimately lost, with a final score of 69-54.

Theran Archibald led the team with 19 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Chris Wilson scored nine points, while Hunter Lake, Dawson Peterson, and A.J. Keelin each scored six points. Adrian Ruiz also scored four points while Daxton Taylor and Bryson Birch scored two points each. Ruiz had the most rebounds with five, while Keelin had four and Lake and Wilson each had three. Keelin also had two steals, along with Dylan Archibald who also had two steals.

On Saturday, the Wolves took on Cody. While Green River kept on fighting, they couldn't overtake the Broncs and ended up losing to Cody 49-37.

Theran Archibald led the team once again, scoring 15 points and getting four rebounds. Wilson scored eight points and got three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Lake had five points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal. Taylor scored four points, while Keelin scored three points in addition to having three steals, one assist and one rebound. Ruiz also scored two points and had one rebound.

While losing is always difficult, the Wolves are keeping a positive attitude as they plan for their next conference games.

"We're using these games to identify areas for improvement moving forward," Coach Ivie said. "Our players are dedicated and resilient, and I have full confidence that we will bounce back and show the true potential of our team in the remainder of our season."

Today the Wolves are in Evanston to take on the Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday the team will be back home in Green River to play Jackson Hole at 3:30 p.m.
