Wolves host meet at home, compete at Bruce Gresly Invitational

The Green River Wolves Swimming and Diving team hosted the Green River Triangular last Thursday against Rock Springs and Rawlins. The Wolves had some great races in their home pool, snagging some first-place finishes and having several stand-out performances.

Colin Gilmore swam away with first-place finishes in the 200 Yard IM and the 500 Yard Freestyle events, along with Keegan Gailey placing first in the One-Meter Diving. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Green River's "A" team had a strong race and snagged first place. The swimmers in the relay team were Aiden Zimmerman, Ashton Hafner, Mitchell Horn and Gilmore.

Zimmerman has been cleared by the doctor to swim but is not at full capacity. He will be having surgery in February, but until then he is pushing himself to get back in the water and compete.

On Saturday, the Wolves traveled to compete in the Bruce Gresly Invitational in Lander. There were fourteen teams speeding through the water, hoping to grab first-place finishes. The teams included Green River, Rock Springs, Evanston, Buffalo, Cheyenne South, Cody, Jackson, Kemmerer, Lander, Natrona County, Powell, Riverton, Sublette County and Worland. Gilmore led the Wolves, taking second place in the 500 Yard Freestyle and fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle, along with Gailey taking second in the One-Meter Diving event.

Head Coach Colleen Seiloff feels the boys swam very well at the home meet and she was pleased that they picked up another qualifier for State. She said there were a lot of time cuts during the home meet and the meet in Lander. She was also very excited that they got to spend Friday with the Wyoming Cowboys Swim and Dive team. She said the boys really enjoyed watching the meet against the University of Utah. The boys learned a lot and they talked about some of the things saw watching some of the fast athletes on the Cowboys and Utes teams. The coaches and the athletes were very nice, welcoming any questions the students had and having conversations with them during the meet.

"We are pretty excited," Seiloff explained. "They are doing well and they're improving. That's our focus for this year, to improve, get better and get stronger."

The Wolves will travel east to compete in the Laramie Invite on Friday and Saturday. On February 2 and 3, Green River will compete in Pinedale for the 3A West Conference Championships.
