Pony Express plans annual Christmas card ride

It's the time of year to send Christmas cards, and the time of year for the Sweetwater County Pony Express to deliver those cards with some extra holiday cheer.

The local Pony Express group will host their 22nd Annual Christmas Card Ride on Saturday, December 9. The cards will be carried on horseback from the Green River Post Office to the Rock Springs Post Office.

Cards will be stamped with a special Pony Express stamp and placed into a mochila - a special bag used by Pony Express riders, named for the Spanish word meaning "bag," which is typically made of leather and designed to fit over a saddle.

The riders plan to be at the post office around 10 a.m. and to leave by 11 a.m. The public is encouraged to come meet the riders and horses and see them off on their ride.

Anyone can send cards on the Pony Express ride, and the cards can be mailed to anywhere. All cards must have the correct postage and be ready to mail. Those who want to send a Christmas card on the ride should have their cards turned in to the Green River Post Office before Friday, December 8 at 5 p.m.
