Wolves seek a more aggressive soccer game

The Green River High School Boys Soccer Team is looking to score a successful season this spring through what first-year head coach Jorge Salcedo describes as a more aggressive style.

The Wolves have already seen some success with this play style, earning a 3-0 win over Cheyenne South during the Todd Melonek Soccer Festival in Green River Friday. The team took a loss Saturday against Laramie in a game that ended 2-1, but Salcedo said while wins and losses are important, he's not very concerned with those numbers as he is focusing on results coming from how the Wolves improve and play.

"We're happy," he said. "We saw results all over the weekend."

Salcedo said his goal is for the Wolves to continually pressure their opponents regardless of if they're playing at home or on the road and they want to make the opposing teams feel uncomfortable as they take on the Wolves.

Salcedo said the team has several goals related to scoring and defensive play. Overall, the Wolves consists of 25 places making up the junior varsity and varsity teams. There are six seniors playing on the varsity squad as well.

"They're working hard," Salcedo said. "They're grasping the style we're teaching them."

The Wolves are looking to improve on their 2021 season, which ended with a 1-14 overall record and a 0-11 conference record. They are off to a great start in improving upon last year's performance.

Salcedo takes over for Kahler Dawson, who coached the team for two seasons. Salcedo was an assistant coach for the Wolves under Dawson during the 2020-2021 season and took over head coaching duties after Dawson stepped down.

The Wolves will take on the Jackson Hole Broncs tonight at 5 p.m. at Wolves Stadium.
