Dixie Bradley

Dixie Bradley of Green River passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of July 18, 2018. She was 80 years old.

Dixie was born Jan. 26, 1938, to James Ray Smith Sr., and Hazel Bush Smith. She graduated from Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, Neb., in 1957. She wanted to be a medical doctor, but on the advice of her grandmother she graduated from business school in Grand Island, Neb.  She worked for the Nebraska Legislature for several years. She was secretary to the president of Hiram Scott College before working for the president of WNGH (now RWMC) in Scottsbluff, Neb.  She also cooked at a ranch in Montana. Before she retired, she worked for Williams in Green River.

She was married to Ron Walker whom she later divorced. She married Carl Bradley and they had Cody. She and Carl later divorced.

Dixie has been a part of a special group of friends who shared a special bond. She was both a mentor and supporter of many friends, but she often thought she was given much from this group. She also participated in a grief group in Green River to assist parents who had lost a child.

She was compassionate, kind-hearted, generous and was always a happy person. She was proud to have had 41 years of sobriety.

She was preceded in death by her son, Cody Bradley; her parents, James Ray Smith Sr. and Hazel Smith; her grandparents, Stella and Peter Odin; sister, Grace Ellen Smith; and brothers, James Ray Smith Jr., and Chuck Smith.

She is survived by brothers Don Smith of Dallas, Dick and wife Patti Smith of Scottsbluff, Neb.; aunt Grace Bush of Yorktown, Va; sister-in-laws, Lavetta Smith of Midvale, Utah; and Dorothy Smith of Kailua, Hawaii; and her special friends and guardian angels in Green River.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. in Collier Park in Green River and will be followed by a potluck lunch.
