Notes from Town Square: Fall activities

The Green River URA/Main Street Agency finished up an exciting Farmers’ Market season Sept. 13.

We were excited to bring back past and new vendors and best of all, it didn’t even rain every Wednesday like it has been known to do.

The vendors really enjoy Green River’s Farmers Market and we all appreciate the support of the community for this important summer event and we are already looking forward to next year.

We have some fun activities as we head into this fall.  The first Saturday in October, the Green River URA/Main Street Agency will host its second annual Nightmare Parade downtown.

Last year, we had nearly 100 “nightmares” participate in the parade and everyone had a lot of fun.  It was a great way to get into the Halloween spirit and practice putting on those costumes.

We will end the parade with a small reception at Centennial Park where everyone can enjoy some refreshments and socialize.

Our next Downtown Rhythms and Rhymes at the Clock Tower will take place Oct. 5. This is our “open-mic” event and we’ve been thrilled with the attendance. We have poets and musicians of all types and it’s great to see what talent is hidden within our community.  Even if you’re not a performer, please come out for a fun evening of free entertainment that you don’t want to miss.

Continuing in the Halloween spirit, the Green River URA/Mains Street Agency will host its most well attended event, the “Trunk or Treat” on Oct. 14. Come join the excitement as we prepare for nearly 1,000 children, parents, and other family members to invade our downtown as they enjoy a safe trick-or-treating experience and show off their favorite costumes.

We’ll have some fun kids games and are looking forward to the costume contest. This year’s categories will include scariest boy and girl, cutest boy and girl, best family, best baby costume (1 year and under), and even a contest for your pets. All of this is supported by great local area merchants who will also be out there to hand out goodies and compete for the traveling trophy for the best decorated trunk. The competition is getting fierce, so be sure to hold the date and join us for this fun family event.
