Local racer will compete at home

Will drive sprint car this weekend

Green River’s Zac Taylor will make his ASCS Frontier Region debut this weekend in front of a hometown crowd at the Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs.

Taylor, who has driven a 305ci sprint car and a midget throughout 2017, will strap into a 360ci winged sprint car on Friday and Saturday at the speedway.

“I’m beyond excited for this opportunity,” he said. “We leased an engine from Mark Sweet to be able to do this. All my friends are coming out and there should be a good car count. I’m just pumped to get back to racing. We haven’t raced for over a month mainly because of rainouts.”

Taylor made his 360ci sprint car debut in June 2016 at Sweetwater Speedway.

He scored the win on the opening night and looked headed to a weekend sweep before an ignition malfunction ended his charge the second night.

“Sweetwater Speedway is a big track,” he said. “Sammy Swindell holds the World of Outlaws track record there and it was 132 miles per hour. I love the track, especially getting to race in front of all my family and friends.”

Taylor helped promote the race recently by having his car at the Sweetwater County Fair.

He is also bringing his No. 86 sprint car to the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting event on Thursday as the newest chamber member.

“It was so cool to be out to the fair,” he said. “There were so many kids who came and talked to us about the car and about sprint car racing.”

Taylor currently sits third in the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association championship standings and he leads the Colorado points for the International Motor Contest Association sprints.
