Creative business comes to GR

A new business will give residents a chance to create works of art in a social environment.

Modern Makers, which will be located Next to Guild Mortgage at 541 E. Flaming Gorge Way will open Thursday.

The shop will sell craft supplies, but feature several classes for people looking to learn new techniques, some of which are planned to be free. The shop will also offer space for birthday parties and science-based classes on Wednesdays, titled “Wonders of Science.”

The business, owned by Ibukun Ojifinni, was originally inspired by a business the Ojifinni family frequented while living near Santa Barbara, Calif.

Rotimi, Ibukun’s husband, said they would take their seven-year-old daughter to classes hosted at the Modern Makers business near their home. Rotimi said they enjoyed the social environment and the feeling of accomplishment they daughter would have after completing a project and wanted to bring that atmosphere to Green River.

The family moved to the area nine months ago for Rotimi’s job and have made many friends in Green River, but missed the atmosphere at Modern Makers.

“The whole idea is providing a safe, social environment ... using art as a vehicle,” Rotimi said.

Rotimi said their daughter is excited for the business to start up, but said it will be open to anyone looking to purchase craft supplies and a space to create something with those supplies.

Rotimi said a grand opening is in the works, but has not been scheduled yet.
