Database paying off for law enforcement

A new database of outstanding warrants on the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office website is already paying off for the office.

Det. Dick Blust, the sheriff office’s public information officer, said people listed on the database have started contacting the sheriff’s office to clear their warrants. Many of the warrants listed in the database are for unpaid citations and can be cleared by simply paying the citation. Since the database was initiated last week, Blust said the office has received numerous calls from people wanting to clear warrants on them.

Aside from helping clear up a list of more than 4,000 people with outstanding warrants, Blust said the list also helps generate information regarding people the sheriff’s office is looking for.

The list comprises warrants issued by municipal courts in Green River and Rock Springs, both circuit courts and district court.

The list is alphabetized and can be searched. Entries include data about the person, such as a brief description of the charge, the person’s age and their city and state of residence if it’s available.

The list can be found by going to http://www.sweet.wy.us, then highlighting “Sheriff’s Office” under the departments listing and clicking on warrants.

While the list can be helpful in helping clear small citations, the sheriff’s office does warn residents not to try apprehending anyone whose name appears on the list.

The office suggests residents contact either the Rock Springs or Green River police departments, or the sheriff’s office.
