Notes from Town Square: Beginning anew

Starting anything new can be a daunting task, even something as simple as joining an organization, taking up a hobby or checking out new places. For some people, even the Green River Recreation Center could be intimidating. But don’t worry; the smiling staff is there to help. The Green River Recreation Center is not a business; it’s a part of the community. Once through the door, there are so many different areas to exercise, like the weight room, pool, gym, racquetball courts and even the fitness class room. If the exercise takes its toll or you’re just a little cold from these winter months (we love our wonderful Wyoming wind) just take a dip in the hot tub, or try something else like the steam room or the sauna.

The facility also offers great programs for families all year round. There are activities you can do alone like water aerobics, and Zumba or you can join a team sport; there is soccer for the kids, adult volleyball leagues, and so much more. Just like the pool, people come in to lift weights and build their strength and almost everyone in the weight room is happy to show you how to use the equipment.

If you are not comfortable asking a fellow patron, there is a personal trainer available to help answer any questions you might have. Though the pool and weight room are what you see first upon entering the facility, they are only two of the many activities to be offered throughout the facility.

The Green River Recreation Center is part of the community; the staff there are your friends and neighbors. The instructors of all the classes, the people you see lifting weights in the weight area, even the volleyball players out there looking like pros, they are all a part of your community.

There should be nothing intimidating about any of them, they all started in the unknown, just taking a leap of faith and trying something new to better their health. They walked into the building not knowing what to expect, looking around at the people who all seemed to know exactly what to do. In no time at all, they became the ones who were the longtime experienced lifters and instructors. The recreation center is a place to meet up with friends and family, a place to learn new things and feel better about your health.
