Swim team enjoys perks of new pool

In the past, members of the Green River High School swim team would have to leave campus and practice at the pool at Monroe Intermediate School.

What was once an adequate facility at Monroe had become outdated and eventually led to local voters approving a new aquatic center at Green River High School.

After several delays, the state-of-the art center opened late last month, and the boy’s swimming team is looking forward to be the first high to team to use the facility.

Head coach Colleen Seiloff and her 2014-15 squad are excited about the opportunity.

“It is really cool. We like it a lot. It’s been adjustment having so much area. There is so much space and so much we can do,” she said. “It really opens the door to a lot of different things with our program. It’s a really good thing. It’s a nice pool and we love it.”

Seiloff said they just started practice, so it has been hard to judge the speed of the pool with her swimmers, but she recently watched a middle school event at the facility and the Green River team was able to pull of some good times.

“I think that’s a pretty good indication that we have a pretty quick pool,” she said.

The boys team will also be able to compete at the 4A South Regional meet in the new facility.

Seiloff said it was moved to Green River after originally being scheduled to take place in Rock Springs.
